Mapping for FoxPro developers

AXSES Inc. of Boutiliers Point Nova Scotia, has developed a mapping presentation and analysis utility that integrates with Microsoft's FoxPro database management system. FoxPro developers can now quickly produce GIS type applications without the need for specialized training and knowledge of propriety GIS systems.

The new FoxMAP system, designed for FoxPro developers and users, provides an easy way to visualize database information that is spatially relevant. Records in any xBase table can be geo- referenced or linked directly to map features such as points of interest, regions on the map, boundaries or lines. Linking of map features to database records is achieved by a simple tag field which uniquely identifies the map feature and the database record or alternatively by entering a location coordinate into the database record. Databases can be searched using a FoxPro query and retrieve engine and displayed in a variety of colours or symbols on the map. The map can also be queried by pointing to a feature to review related database information.

FoxMAP includes a mapping engine together with map editing tools and translators to convert maps from other GIS and CAD systems. Also included is a run time FoxPro application to query single or joined databases, print out reports, group and cross tabulate data for display on a map and to organise and manage the map and database environment. An applications generator allows users and developers to create custom query menus and applications without having to write or compile any code.

FoxMAP includes a map of the world at a scale of 1:1,000,000 derived from the CIA world map (WDB2). A Region of interest selector allows users to window in on any area and cut out sections for a project specific map. A wide range of maps and utilities are available from AXSES, its associated developers and business partners.
