Ian Clayton, Director of AXSES INC, was born in Trinidad and has worked
and lived in various Caribbean states including Jamaica, Trinidad, Guiana
and Barbados. He graduated with Honours in Commerce (System) from Concordia
University of Montreal Canada, and has completed the core requirements
of a Masters in Computer Science at the same university (ABT). Mr. Clayton
has many years experience in systems design, analysis and implementation
of information projects for business, resource management, coastal zone
management and tourism.
Ian Clayton has specialised in developing and implementing decision
support systems for environmentally related activities using cost effective
Communications and network systems, Spatial analysis techniques, Image
Analysis, Multimedia, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Desk Top
Mapping. He is a pioneer in the development of Internet Database systems
and MultiMEDIA Mapping technology for use in strategic Planning, in Land
Information Systems and Tourism.
His current activities are related to Internet and Multimedia applications
in tourism including; website planning, development and Internet marketing.
He is founder of Axses Inc, Axses Systems Caribbean and RealHolidays and has
considerable knowledge of technology in tourism and its growing impact
on the tourism market channels
His accomplishments cover a wide range of interests and experience:
- Established and managed several government and private sector R&D
projects relating to Strategic Technology and Decision Support Systems,
GIS and Land Records management.
- Systems and business consultant for the FMG (Bay of Fundy, the Gulf
of Maine and Georges Bank) marine environmental information system (FMG
EcoATLAS), designed for coastal zone management (1991-92).
- Wins Atlantic Alliance Award for innovation (1992-1994).
- Architect of the Distributed Environmental Information System (DEIS)
developed by AXSES and MacLAREN Plansearch with collaboration from the
Gulf of Main Council on the Marine Environment. (1992-1994).
- Project leader for the preliminary study of information technology
for the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in Nova Scotia (1993).
- Coordinator of a Canada Government funded research on Technology in
Tourism (1992)
- Systems analyst with the "tourism and coastal zone planning study"
of North Sulawesie (1994).
- Creator of the MultiMedia Mapping (MultiMap) and EcoATLAS systems displayed
at the Sustainable Technology for Small Islands States (Susteck - 1994).
- Conducted workshops for CIDA and UNDP on the use of Geographic Information Systems for resource
planning and tourism within the OECS states (1993).
- First spatial database of the Barbados tourism resource
including; hotels, guest houses, apartments, restaurants, fishing villages
and markets etc (1995).
- Established AXSES Systems Caribbean, an Internet-Multimedia Company
offering creative services (video photography, script writing, html, programming),
strategic planning, management and marketing for tourism destinations (1996).
- First to Publish Barbados on the Internet with the award
winning "Barbados Tourism Encyclopedia", the official website
of the Barbados Tourism Authority (1997).
- Created several strategic Websites including; Caribislands.net, Divefree.net,
Surfseekers.net, Coralisle.net.
Mr. Clayton has studied information technology and trends related to
planning for the sustainable development of land and natural resources.
He has published concepts for Tourism and Resource related information
systems in "Earth Observation Magazine", "Sea Technology"
and "Computers in Education".
